India Bans More 43 China Apps- China Says Its Against WTO Rules

India banned another 43 China mobile on security grounds. Whereas,China says the ban of apps violates the rules and policies of World Trade Organization (WTO).

On Nov 24, India made a move to ban a few more China apps. China opposes India’s ban of apps and says it is just an excuse in the name of national security. This is the fourth time that India prohibiting the China apps since the standoff in Ladakh. The total apps banned in India are 267.

The Chinese embassy spokesperson, Ji Rong said “We firmly oppose the Indian side’s repeated use of ‘national security’ as an excuse to prohibit some mobile apps with Chinese background”.

Meanwhile, the Federal Technology Ministry of India stated that the banned apps include the dating apps which are against India’s “sovereignty and integrity”.

In the past, Indian already banned over 170 apps on the security grounds which could be a threat to user’s data.

Some of the blocked mobile apps include the commerce apps like Alibaba, Aliexpress, Camcard and other dating apps like Chinalove, Datemyage, Flirtwish.

In the response of blocking apps, the Chinese embassy asked India to provide a fair, impartial and non discriminatory business environment to all business partners including China. China also asked India to correct the practices that are violating WTO rules.

The embassy added “China and India are the opportunities of development to each other rather than threats. Both sides should bring bilateral economic and trade relations back to the right path for mutual benefit and win-win results on the basis of dialogue and negotiation”

The Indian IT Ministry said that the Central government issued an order under Section 69A that comes under the Information Technology Act. The order is to justifies the blocking of 43 China mobile apps.
