India reported 9216 new cases of coronavirus in the country in the last 24 hours. The total tally of cases reported in the country reached 3,46,15,757 and the active cases dropped down to 99,976 as per the reports from the Union Health Ministry. 391 new deaths are reported in India in the last 24 hours and the total death tally reached 4,70,115. 320 deaths are reported in Kerala alone as per the reports from yesterday. Two cases of the Omicron variant are reported in Karnataka and they are kept in isolation. Both these arrived from South Africa. Some other foreign travelers who returned to India are tested positive for coronavirus and their samples are sent to the prescribed labs. The reports are expected to arrive soon and these travelers are kept in isolation wards in the nearest private hospitals.

The Union Health Ministry said that the rise in the new coronavirus infections is less than 50,000 mark from the past 159 consecutive days. The active cases comprise of 0.29 percent of the total reported infections and the recovery rate is 98.35 percent. The daily positivity rate is 0.80 percent and the weekly positivity rate is 0.84 percent. The total number of recoveries in the country from coronavirus are said to be 3,40,45,666 and the fatality rate is 1.36 percent. The Union Health Ministry said that more than 70 percent of the deaths in the country occurred due to comorbidities. As per the reports from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the total samples tested for coronavirus on December 2nd are said to be 11,57,156 and the samples tested in total are said to be 64,46,68,082.
