Facebooks’ smart glasses will be one step ahead in the overall work of Augmented Reality. The glasses will not have a display and cannot be classified as AR.

At its seventh annual AV/VR event, Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company will partner with Italian eyewear giant Luxottica and the glasses will be branded by RayBan.

The consumer wearable smart glasses will be made available by 2021 as announced by the Facebook CEO.

Facebook said that the smart glasses will be one step ahead of the Augmented reality glasses. The smart glasses will be a new generation product that will reinvent both fashion and technology.

Zuckerberg said that he did not have a prototype yet to share with the world but said that his company has formed a multi-year partnership with Italy’s giant to build and produce the first pair of smart glasses next year.

According to certain sources that spoke to the TechCrunch, the smart glasses would not have a display and hence cannot be classified under Augmented Reality but much ahead than that.

Facebook will do intensive testing with its AR glasses prototype where Facebook employees and contractors will work on elements like privacy, design, and video recording.

Mark Zuckerberg had demonstrated a video in the event which depicts that the smart glasses can be used to get an insight on the street directions, music recommendations according to the recently saved data and can even show the virtual alerts about where you can find your lost key.

Moreover, Facebook announced that it will extend the third party’s reach to both Messenger and the Facebook portal which also means that whatever effects the third party creates through Spark AR and Facebook’s AR program will reflect in the app and the device.

Facebook and Messenger already have an AR team but they belong to Facebook’s in-house team.

More than 600 million people use Spark AR across Facebook and Instagram every month and in the last three months, more than 150 owners have reached over 1 million views and uses.

Starting next year, Facebook plans to launch Portal and Messenger to Spark AR creator publishing which can provide more ways for people to have fun.
