Bollywood's Vidya Balan experienced many setbacks at the start of her movie career. But, she ultimately thrived in the business with well-known movies like Parineeta, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. In a recent talk with Rodrigo Canelas on his YouTube channel Something Bigger, Vidya said that she would cry to sleep each night after being called "unlucky" early on in her work. Vidya said that Chakram was the project she had always wanted to do. She recalled going to a South Indian commercial shoot where they were auditioning for the movie, and they asked her to try out. She said that her mom agreed because she really liked Mohanlal. Vidya then said that right after the audition, the director wanted to meet her, and she went to the meeting with her sister and mom. She stated, "I began working on the movie, the filming went smoothly, and after two weeks, they sent me back to Bombay. We filmed a scene, and then they said that the schedule was done, planning to film the whole movie all at once. They mentioned that Mohanlal sir had some scheduling problems, so we would take a break and come back the following month. The director and Mohanlal had some issues, and as a result, we weren't filming much, so I thought that this was how it should be. So, I went back to Bombay feeling happy."

Vidya remembered that by the time she got to Mumbai, news had spread about a South Indian actress working in a Malayalam movie, when most South actresses were from Punjab. She said that this made her get many offers. "People would reach out to share their story ideas, talk about payments, and schedules," and because of this, she accepted 8 to 9 movie roles. She thought to herself that she was now famous. But, she didn't know that the Mohanlal movie Chakram had been stopped. After it was canceled, she lost all of the 8 or 9 movie opportunities that she had taken. They thought that since the actor and director had previously made 8 successful movies together, they were doing their 9th, and believed this girl's energy was the reason for problems, calling her unlucky. It was a confusing period with a lot of disappointment. Her parents began wishing and hoping that one movie would be a success for her, as they saw the rejection and sadness she was going through. She would cry herself to sleep, but she never lost faith."

Vidya started her Bollywood career with Parineeta in 2005 and was praised for her acting. She continued her career with movies like Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Guru, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Paa, The Dirty Picture, and Kahaani. Her most recent role was in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which was very successful, earning ₹389.28 crore worldwide. She has not yet announced what she will do next.
