A key distinction between the Indian Premier League (IPL) and other T20 leagues globally is the unique position the IPL holds regarding Indian players. Currently, no active Indian players, unless they have retired, can participate in foreign leagues. This indicates that the IPL is the sole franchise T20 competition where top players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill can take part. IPL chairman Arun Singh Dhumal ruled out the chance of Indian players competing in international leagues soon, citing concerns about managing their workload. "Consider the heavy workload our players face. The BCCI has implemented a rule requiring international players to participate in domestic events as well," Dhumal mentioned to journalist Vimal Kumar.

"They need to compete in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy also. With so much cricket happening in India and a huge fanbase in the nation, I believe there won't be a chance for them (to join overseas leagues)," Dhumal remarked. He noted that it is particularly challenging for star players to engage in foreign leagues because of their obligations to international cricket across various formats. "Right now, there is no possibility for the top players. How can they leave? Some are playing in three formats. Managing their workload is essential!" Dhumal explained. "Certain bowlers need rest after two Tests, and we have to give them breaks during ODIs and T20Is. If we then send them abroad to play in leagues, it could negatively impact the national team too," he added.

Dhumal's point is illustrated by Jasprit Bumrah, who, while being a leading fast bowler for India, is carefully managed by the team staff, often sitting out significant Tests and ODIs.
