A chunk of blue cheese in Spain has set a new record as the priciest cheese ever auctioned, selling for an incredible 36,000 euros (around Rs 36 lakh). As per Guinness World Records, this record-setting cheese had a weight of about 2.3 kg. It was produced from cow's milk and aged for 10 months inside the Los Mazos cave, which is located nearly 1,500 metres above sea level. This cave is commonly used for maturing Cabrales cheese, made with unpasteurized milk from cows, goats, and sheep. The aging process in the cave gives the cheese its unique greenish-blue appearance and strong, salty taste. The cheese was sold by the Regulatory Council DOP Cabrales (Spain) during an auction that took place in Cabrales, Asturias, Spain, on August 25, 2024.
